Now Affiliated with SC Del Sol

Yavapai Soccer is now affiliated with SC Del Sol.

SC Del SolWhat does it mean to you?

  • Why SC Del Sol?
They are one of the top clubs in Phoenix and their competitive program is the best in the state.  SC Del Sol is a Nike Premier Club, their oldest girls’ teams participate in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), the country’s elite, invitation only league for female athletes of which they are a founding member. Their oldest boys’ teams participate in the Western College Development Academy (WCDA) and the National Premier League. Both of these leagues are also invitation only and are comprised of the top boys clubs in the US.  We believe that their coaches and their methods can raise the level of play in the area to move us up the competitive ladder by helping us produce better coaches and players.  Their coaches have a massive wealth of knowledge that we can draw on holding NSCAA, USSF and UEFA licenses.
  • What does this mean to you the competitive player?
Yavapai Soccer coaches will have access to SC Del Sol coaches as a way of mentoring themselves and their teams.  We will be bringing in SC Del Sol coaches for training sessions and classes to improve our coaching and our coaches as well as going to them.  SC Del Sol coaches will be available for and will be utilized to train Yavapai teams at coach request.  We will also have access to and begin utilizing the SC Del Sol curriculum.  There may also be loan opportunities for players.
  • What does this mean to you the recreational player?
Yavapai will utilize SC Del Sol for coaching classes for our recreational coaches prior to the season.
  • Will this cost the average player more money?
Additional costs to players will be minimal.  Overall club fees will remain below what others are paying and if you are on scholarship those fees will be even less.

This is not an attempt to expand SC Del Sol but an opportunity for Yavapai to utilize the resources of what we believe is the top club in Phoenix in a way that helps Yavapai to grow stronger and produce better players and coaches.  As the affiliation grows there will be camp opportunities that we expect to develop, as well as other opportunities we will explore.

Yavapai Cup TournamentThe Daily Courier

Spring dew clings to tangled branches below dusk-twilight in the greater Prescott area. In the distance, at the periphery of audible sensation, faint buzzing heralds a swarm of soccer players.

They’ll storm 21 soccer fields, including municipal fields in Prescott Valley and Chino and the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University field, in Prescott.

But, unlike a locust plague, the 18th annual Yavapai Cup soccer tournament leaves a positive aftermath of skill-level matched games and local revenue.

Youth Soccer Teammates Play Each Other for Championship

Prescott Valley Tribune

Local youth soccer coach Craig Hacker didn’t know he would be pitted against himself in the finals of the 3v3 Live Soccer Tournament May 21 at the Snedigar Sports Complex in Chandler.

But that’s what happened after he split his Yavapai Soccer Under-12 team in half to enter the tourney, which allows just six players per team, and both squads made it to the title game.

The green squad handed the white squad its only loss of the tournament in the championship game, and both teams qualified for the 3v3.

“They have worked so hard in the past season earning them no less than third place in every tournament we entered this year,” said Hacker. “I am proud to be their coach.”

“That’s one happy coach and a bunch of happy kids,” said Yavapai spokesman John Sterling.

He said each squad played four games in one day in 100-degree heat. The fast game is played on a smaller field (40-feet long by 30-feet wide or about one-fourth the size of a regulation field) in 10-minute halves.

He added, “This particular group of boys has been playing together for about two years without any major additions or deletions from the roster. Both teams were unchallenged on the day scoring over 25 goals each. They beat teams from San Tan soccer club in Phoenix, The Tigers and local team Vardar.”

Sterling noted the very young U10 boys, playing in their first 3v3 tourney, improved every game.

Soccer tournaments give a kick to business for area hotels, restaurants

The Daily Courier

Don Prince, director of tourism for the City of Prescott, recalls taking his son, Chris, to Prescott from Scottsdale to participate in the Mile High Classic regional soccer tournament. Prince’s son is now an adult, but dad now takes in the tournament from a different perspective: soccer players and their families filling hotel rooms, tables and booths in restaurants and buying other merchandise and services.

“Mile High pretty much sells out all the hotels,” Prince said, referring to the tournament that the American Youth Soccer Organization sponsored from Friday through Sunday. Citing a study that the city’s Parks and Recreation Department conducted, he said Mile High drew 1,060 participants [70 teams] in 2010. He added the estimated direct spending amounted to $273,000 from visitors and $22,500 from participants from the tri-city area … Continue reading
